These Velvetone boards were originally created as tracing templates for garment lettering. Each board featured velvet-flocked letters, in a variety of styles. They were designed as a starting point for jacket and uniform layouts.

The original boards were available in the 1950s from a company called Velvatone (Los Angeles) and marked: “Flock Rub Off Lettering & Designs for Garment Lettering.” Now preserved and available for modern design use as editable vectors and high-resolution scans.
