License FAQ
Simple licensing, purchase once and use it everywhere
We use an employee-based model for simplicity: choose your tier by the total number of people working for your company/organization. One license covers everything. Use our fonts wherever your brand lives: websites, logos, videos, print materials, packaging, signage, social media, you name it.
No separate licenses for different uses. No usage caps. No tracking installs across your team. Your license covers everyone at your company and lasts forever, even as you grow.
Pricing that grows with you
We don't make you juggle user seats or disclose income. Pricing is based simply on your company size, the total number of people working for your business.
If you're a solo designer, that's one person. If you're an agency or studio, it's everyone employed at the company. Simple as that.
Choose the tier that fits you now, buy once, and use it forever, even if your company grows.

What's a font license?
A font license is the right to use the font software under an End User License Agreement (EULA). The designer retains ownership; the license grants specific usage rights to you/your organization.
Licensing by employee count?
We use an employee-based model for simplicity: choose your tier by the total number of people working for your company/organization.
Purchase the license that fits your company now and use it forever, even if your company grows! When you come back to purchase another font ( we love you! ) choose the employee count size at that moment in time.
- Who to count:
Everyone working for your company at the time of purchase:
Full-time, part-time, consultants, contractors and freelancers. - Who not to count: Outside vendors (e.g., printers, service bureaus, external agencies); Those parties need their own license if they’ll install or edit files.
- One company, one license: The license covers all employees of the named legal entity so your team can share the font internally without tracking per-machine installs.
- Subsidiaries / separate entities: Each distinct legal entity needs its own license unless we approve a parent/affiliate arrangement in writing.
Can I give the font to my client?
Not the font files themselves unless they have their own license. Deliver outlines/rasterized assets for non-editors.
If a client or contractor needs to edit live text, they’ll need to purchase a license sized to their team.
Can I use the font in a logo and trademark it?
Yes. Creating a logo/wordmark is typically allowed under desktop use, and you can register a trademark for the logo artwork. The trademark covers the artwork, not the font software.
Can I embed the font in a website, video game or app?
App/ebook/web/OTT embedding requires an additional license (and sometimes files). Please contact us at hello@practicallettering.com and tell us about your distribution (platforms, users) and we’ll get you sorted with the correct license.
Can I use the fonts in films, TV, other broadcasting?
Yes! Our fonts are inspired by historic alphabets and may be a perfect fit for your production.
Using a font for on-screen titles, credits, lower-thirds, and set/prop graphics is allowed under most desktop video workflows because you’re exporting rendered frames (not distributing the font file itself).
Be sure to choose a license tier by your studio’s total employee count (employee-based licensing). Separate companies (vendors/clients) aren’t covered by your license.
Can I include the font in templates (Figma, Canva, etc.)?
Absolutely! You can upload the fonts to tools like Figma and Canva for your team’s use.
If an outside organization needs access to the fonts, they would need to purchase a font license.
Can I embed the font in PDFs and documents for distribution?
Yes for documents and marketing PDFs, provided recipients can’t extract the font for reuse. Resale/distribution that exposes the font data requires additional licensing.
Can I modify, convert, or subset the font files?
No, modifications or conversions without written permission (including changing formats, metrics, or embedding data). We offer custom builds or subsetting on request.
Can I use the font with AI tools or to train models?
Training or fine-tuning machine-learning models on the font, or generating derivative fonts with AI, isn’t permitted.
Do I need a separate license for web, desktop, and social posts?
All rendered output is covered under our standard commercial license that includes website images/banners, videos, PDFs, outlined SVGs, print pieces, and social posts/ads. You’re not distributing the font software in these cases, so no extra license is required.
If you (or a vendor/client) need the actual font files installed or embedded — e.g., desktop installs for design work, webfont embedding (@font-face WOFF/WOFF2), app/ebook bundling, or templates/shared files with live text — contact us to arrange licensing for that use.
Can I transfer my license to another party?
Licenses are non-transferable unless we approve in writing (for example, at the end of an agency engagement). Contact us to request a transfer; both parties must confirm.
I purchased the wrong license tier, help!
No problem! Contact us and we'll get your licensing sorted either by a partial refund or you paying the difference.

Why Licensing Matters
Practical Lettering Studio fonts are created by working artists who dedicate time, skill, and research to their craft. This license exists to protect that creative work and to ensure artists are paid fairly for the tools they create.
Licensing fonts supports the continued production of new work. When users purchase a license rather than share or distribute font files, they help preserve the livelihoods of independent designers and keep traditional lettering arts alive.
Your cooperation with these terms allows artists to keep making new typefaces, and ensures you and your clients can use them with confidence and integrity.
Your License
This license is designed to be simple, fair, and perpetual.
- Buy once and use forever.
- Choose your license tier based on your company’s total employee count, including full-time, part-time, consultants, contractors, and freelancers.
- You do not need to upgrade if your company grows. When purchasing new fonts later, select the tier that matches your current size.
- You can use the fonts for any commercial, personal, or non-profit work, including logos, packaging, film/tv/broadcast, and digital design.
- You may not share, resell, or give the font files to others outside your company. Each company or client needs their own license.
- The fonts may be provided to service bureaus solely for output/production of your work, not for their library or future use.
- One license covers everyone in your company. Subsidiaries and separate legal entities need their own license.
Using the fonts
- You are welcome to alter or customize glyphs in your artwork as needed, but the original font files themselves may not be regenerated, converted, embedded, or saved as other formats. The font file may never be included in any software, app, website, or file distribution, whether editable or non-editable.
- You may not create or distribute complete alphabet references, character maps, or glyph catalogs in any format (vector, raster, or otherwise) that would enable others to trace, reference, or reproduce the full typeface. Using individual characters or partial examples within your design work is permitted; this restriction prevents creating reference materials that substitute for purchasing the font.
- Do not change the font names or remove embedded author or license information.
- Never upload the fonts to a server, application, game, or website that allows unlicensed users to access or render the fonts. The artist deserves to be paid when people use the letters.
- The fonts may not be used to create or sell alphabet products: commercial offerings where the font's letterforms are the product itself, and purchasers can use them to assemble new words or designs.
Examples of prohibited uses:
- Digital embroidery alphabet collections
- Alphabet stencil or stamp sets
- Monogram generators or customization tools
- Letter-by-letter SVG collections for cutting machines
- Alphabet sticker packs or individual letter products
Examples of permitted uses:
- A poster design that happens to show some of the alphabet
- Logo work that includes letterforms
- A children's book with illustrated letters as part of the narrative
- Educational materials where the alphabet is incidental to the teaching content.
The key distinction: if someone is buying access to the individual letters to create their own words, that's an alphabet product and is prohibited.
- Never give or send the actual font files to an unlicensed party. If a third party, such as a client or vendor, needs to view or reproduce your design, provide the artwork as a rasterized or outlined file, for example, PDF, JPG, or SVG. The third party must have their own license to install the fonts.
In short: the fonts are yours to use forever. Do not share, embed, or redistribute the font files, create alphabet reference materials, or sell alphabet products.

IMPORTANT - READ CAREFULLY
This End User License Agreement (Agreement or EULA) is a legal contract between you (Licensee) and Practical Lettering Studio (PLS). By downloading, installing, or using the Font Software, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement. If you do not agree, do not download, install, or use the Font Software.
1. DEFINITIONS
Font Software means the software that generates typeface and typographic designs and ornaments when used on a computer or output device, including any updates, documentation, and permitted copies.
User means an individual employee or contractor using the Font Software.
Internal Use means use within your organization for design, print, or digital work that is not sold or distributed separately as a product.
Commercial Product means any end product offered for sale or distribution to third parties for profit, including merchandise, apps, games, or template packs.

Upon payment in full, PLS grants you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Font Software according to your company’s total employee count at the time of purchase.
The desktop license covers rendered output (images, videos, PDFs, etc). Live text embedding (webfonts, apps, ebooks) requires additional licensing.
You may:
- Install and share the Font Software internally across all employees within your licensed company or organization.
- Use the Font Software to create static graphics, such as logos, packaging, print, film/tv/broadcast, and digital artwork.
- Embed the Font Software in non-editable PDFs or view-only files.

You may not:
- Share or distribute the Font Software with other companies, subsidiaries, or outside vendors.
- Convert, modify, or decompile the Font Software except as expressly permitted by law.
- Create or sell alphabet products: commercial offerings where the font's letterforms are the product itself, and purchasers can use them to assemble new words or designs.

- Monogram generators or customization tools
- Letter-by-letter SVG collections for cutting machines
- Alphabet sticker packs or individual letter products
Examples of permitted uses:

- Logo work that includes letterforms
- A children's book with illustrated letters as part of the narrative
- Educational materials where the alphabet is incidental to the teaching content.
3. EMPLOYEE-BASED LICENSING POLICY
PLS uses a simple employee-based model to determine the appropriate license tier for your organization.
- Choose your tier by your company’s total number of employees, including full-time, part-time, consultants, contractors, and freelancers, at the time of purchase.
- Once purchased, your license is perpetual; no upgrades are needed if your company grows.
- When purchasing additional fonts in the future, simply choose the tier that reflects your company size at that time.
Who to count:
Full-time employees, part-time employees, consultants, contractors, and freelancers working at your company or organization at the time of licensing.
Who not to count:
Outside vendors such as printers or service bureaus who only output final artwork and delete the font after the job, as well as client companies or unrelated agencies. Those parties must purchase their own license if they will install or edit files containing the fonts.
One company, one license:
Your license covers all employees of the named legal entity, allowing you to share the font internally without tracking per-machine installations.
Subsidiaries and affiliates:
Each distinct legal entity requires its own license unless PLS approves a parent or affiliate arrangement in writing.
4. LICENSE TIERS (BY COMPANY SIZE)
Tier 1: 1–5 employees – Individual, designer, or small business
Tier 2: 6–50 employees – Small company or growing organization
Tier 3: 51–250 employees – Medium-size company or regional organization
Tier 4: 251–1000 employees – Large company or national organization
Tier 5: 1001+ employees – Enterprise or global organization license
If your company exceeds your licensed tier after purchase, no upgrade is required.
If purchasing new fonts in the future, select the tier that reflects your current size.
Each separate legal entity must obtain its own license.
5. EMBEDDING AND DISTRIBUTION
You may embed the Font Software in non-editable formats such as PDF, SVG, video titles, or rasterized artwork.
Editable embedding, including apps, software, web use, or templates, is not permitted under this license.
The Font Software may never be embedded, included, or distributed as part of any software, application, website, or system that enables unlicensed individuals to access or render it.
You may not create or distribute complete alphabet references, character maps, or glyph catalogs in any format (vector, raster, or otherwise) that would enable others to trace, reference, or reproduce the full typeface. Using individual characters or partial examples within your design work is permitted; this restriction prevents creating reference materials that substitute for purchasing the font.
Embedding the Font Software in a website, mobile app, video game, or electronic device is not included in this license. If you would like to discuss one of these use cases, please contact Practical Lettering Studio directly at hello@practicallettering.com for a custom license arrangement.
6. MODIFICATIONS
You may convert text to outlines for logo or artwork creation. You may not edit, rename, regenerate, or redistribute the font files themselves.
Custom modifications or derivative versions may only be made by or under the supervision of PLS.
7. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The design of the Font, Font Software, and all trademarks associated with them are the exclusive property of PLS.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Unauthorized use, copying, or distribution constitutes copyright infringement and may result in legal action.
8. LIMITATIONS
You agree not to:
- Distribute alphabet products where the font's letterforms are the product itself, and purchasers can use them to assemble new words or designs, including specimen sheets, stickers, embroidery alphabets, or stencil kits.
- Embed fonts in editable templates sold to third parties.
- Upload or distribute the Font Software on online font libraries or marketplaces.
9. WARRANTY AND LIABILITY
PLS stands behind the quality and function of every font it produces. Each typeface is tested to perform properly in standard design software and operating systems current at the time of release.
If you experience a technical issue or discover a reproducible bug in the Font Software, PLS will make every reasonable effort to repair, replace, or update the files at no additional cost. If a fix is not possible, PLS may offer a comparable replacement or refund of the original purchase price.
This license does not cover misuse, modification, or installation of the fonts on unsupported platforms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PLS’s total liability shall not exceed the amount paid for the Font Software. PLS is not liable for incidental, indirect, or consequential damages such as lost profits or business interruption.
10. TERMINATION
This Agreement automatically terminates if you breach its terms. Upon termination, you must delete all copies of the Font Software.
PLS reserves the right to modify or update this Agreement at any time.
