- Connected forms that allow letters travel in one continuous line - fewer thread changes or tie-offs.
- Rounded terminals (while sharp corners are doable, slightly rounded corners can be easier to stitch.
- Comfortable proportions (not condensed) so letters don’t blob together.
- Monoline stroke contrast that accentuate a continuous thread path.
How to get good results when designing for chainstitch embroidery
- Size & spacing: avoid condensed settings; add 2–6% tracking at small sizes to keep counters open.
- Stitch path: choose connected letters to minimize tie-offs.
- Density: reduce slightly where counters are tight; shorten stitch length for tiny lettering.
